Why Chrome??

Almost everyone is excited ( just like a thalaivar's new movie) about the launch of Google's Browser Chrome. From the first sight, the UI is attractive and the pages are loading much much faster than Firefox and IE.

However this is only the beginning - Chrome has a long way to go to match FF.

btw, why this name Chrome???

Did some search and found from the internet that Chrome was an highly anticipated Multimedia project from Microsoft, which was later put to end of life. Is this name Chrome from that Chrome?

or is there some relation with our Chrompettai in Chennai???

but one thing for sure, these days my mind is thinking about absolutely useless things ;-)

UPDATE: Browser is build over an open source project CHROMIUM

I read the cartoons that describe the chrome browser. I think the thinking has been awesome... Lots of changes in browser architecture...

And user has also been given importance... the google way!

BTW, they call the top title bar as chrome in case of "Chrome" browser.

"We are so, so happy with Google Chrome," mumbled Mozilla CEO John Lilly through gritted teeth. "That most of our income is from Google has no bearing on me making this statement." http://notnews.today.com/?p=57

@ Prashanth:
Yes that comic is a fantastic idea. In future more products will come up with similar comics for their manuals - I guess.

Again only time can say if Google will continue providing the same revenue to Mozilla.

Comic is a fantastic idea? Everyone will release their manuals in comic format? ROFL!

I love how people love everything that Google does. Mark my words, there will be a time when tide will turn against Google.

Google will continue to pay Mozilla or else Mozilla will change the default search provider which means Google will lose roughly 20% of internet users. Ads being their major chunk of revenue, I don't think Google will be stupid enough to stop paying money to Mozilla.
